Many homes and buildings built before 1978 have lead paint or varnish on the walls, woodwork, windows and floors.
Children under age 6 can easily be poisoned by swallowing the dust or chips from worn out or damaged paint. The lead dust makes it’s way into the body through normal hand to mouth activities of young children. Lead poisoning can cause learning, growth, and behavior problems. Even small amounts of lead can be harmful.
