The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) have provided an updated model floodplain ordinance requiring Oconto County to amend text in Chapter 21 Floodplain Ordinance in order to be in compliance with the minimum regulatory standards of the WI Administrative Code NR 116 WI Floodplain Management Program and those of the National Flood Insurance Program 44 CFR 59-72.
Flood maps show the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA)- the area that would be affected by a 1%-annual-chance flood (or base flood). Properties within the SFHA are at a high risk of flooding, with at least a 26% chance of flooding over the course of a 30-year mortgage. There are two primary flood hazard zones within a coastal SFHA. Learn more about flood maps for coastal regions.
