September 29, 2021 - 2021 Oconto County Public Health Department Flu Update

Oconto County Public Health will provide flu vaccine at one walk in flu clinic open to the public and will visit Oconto County schools to provide flu vaccine to students at their school.  The walk in flu clinic will be held on Monday 10/11/2021 from 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. in the Oconto County Law Enforcement Center Conference Room located at 220 Arbutus Avenue in Oconto.  The cost is $30 cash or check, Medicaid, or Medicare.  Please bring your Medicare or Medicaid cards when you receive your flu shot.

Oconto County Public Health will provide free flu vaccine to all students and free Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to students age 12 and older at their schools this fall.  All school students are eligible for the free vaccines at school regardless of insurance or income. Parents: If you did not receive the consent forms, go to www.ocph.info and click on Influenza.     

All flu vaccine this season will be quadrivalent, meaning it protects against four strains of flu.Flu vaccine is your best protection against the flu and is recommended for everyone 6 months and up, with rare exceptions.It is especially important if you have a baby under 6 months or someone 65 and older in your life, as the flu can be especially dangerous for those age groups.

Flu vaccine keeps many people from getting the flu, however, some people who get the flu vaccine may still get sick.Flu vaccine lowers your risk of getting severely ill as well as hospitalization from flu, which is especially important during the COVID-19 pandemic.As of September 29, 2021, Wisconsin Department of Health Services data shows that 88% of hospital beds and 92% of ICU beds are in use in northeast Wisconsin.In mid-July 2021, 70% of northeast Wisconsin ICU beds were in use.
