May 16, 2022 - OCONTO COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH IS WORKING TO ASSURE SAFE DRINKING WATER IN AREAS IMPACTED BY RECENT FLOODING

As a result of flooding after the recent storms in Oconto County, the Public Health Department is informing the public that when a well has been flooded, bacteria and other harmful organisms can get into your water.  It will take time for the water to be safe again.  Until the water is safe, individuals need to use safe water which includes bottled water, tap water that has been boiled for one minute, or water from a well that was not flooded.

Oconto County Public Health (OCPH) will distribute free well water test kits at the Spruce Town Hall located at 9097 Co Rd B, Lena, WI 54139 on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.  Test kits will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.  One kit per address will be provided.  In order to maximize resources, we are asking that only those in the flood affected areas receive a free test kit.  A limited number of test kits will be available for pick up on Wednesday May 18, 2022 at the Oconto County Courthouse, Building C, 1st floor inside the visitor parking lot entrance from 7:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m.

OCPH recommends that anyone with standing water in their yard tests their well.

If well disinfection is needed, OCPH recommends using a licensed well driller or pump installer for disinfection.  Click here for a list: https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/flood/water.htm
